This is the first of, I believe 3 parts, of my personal 2011 aviation highlights. This was a very active year with my aviation hobby as I got to see planes that I hadn’t seen before, I went to a couple of airshows and also went plane spotting out of state.
Part 1, comes from the Randolph Air Force Base Airshow. At the show, I got see a plane that I had been chasing for a few years, but hadn’t quite had the chance to catch up to. In fact, I almost skipped going to this airshow altogether, until I saw that the plane that I’d been chasing was going to be there.

Myself in requisite aviation geek wear, in front of FIFI
I’m talking about FIFI, the last airworthy B-29 bomber left in the world. I was trying to explain the significance of this plane type to my kids, but I don’t think that it really sank in to their brains. Hopefully, they’ll eventually understand and know that they got to see a little bit of history when they came face to face with this plane.
Here are a few of the other pics that I took of Fifi from my aviation photography website.
