Airbus and Boeing Love Latin America

According to a Reuters report, both Boeing and Airbus are chomping at the bits at the prospect of $150 billion plus in sales in Latin America. The outlook was presented at the FIDAE air show in Chile.

Airbus estimates the market to be about 1700 planes in the next 20 years, whereas Boeing estimates the size of the market to be around 1640 planes. Regardless, both manufacturers expect to make sizeable sales in the Latin American market over the next few years. No word was given on what slice of the pie Embraer expects to carve out for themselves.

I think it would be interesting to see how big the local guys, aka Embraer, estimate the market to be.

I for one would like to see Embraer carve out a nice chunk of the Latin American airplane market over the next 20 years. I realize that Embraer doesn’t offer the same product mix as Boeing and Airbus, but I’m still interested to see what numbers they think they’ll see.

Who knows, maybe 20 years from now we’ll be saying “Oba, Oba, Brasil” at the rise of Embraer.
