In light of the recent scare of the guy trying to blow up a plane on it’s way to Detroit, I was reminded of a George Carlin skit. In that bit, George talks about how all of the safety checks that they have in place are a load of bull malarky. All of the safety checks etc. are only in place to make people feel safe, not to actually make things safe.
I agree with George in his assessment.
A commenter on a different blog said that anytime you hear about explosives etc. being found it’s always “on the plane” it’s never at “the security check.” It may just be a deal that it’s newsworthy if it’s found on the plane, but not if it’s found at the security check, but I digress.
At the security check, they will gladly confiscate your shampoo bottle, your water, your vodka, your shaving razors, and make you take off your shoes, etc. and yet they never seem to find anything that’s actually explosive or dangerous until the guy gets on the plane.
From what I’ve read, the purported bomber had the explosives sewn into his underwear, not on his carry on luggage, his shoes, his water, or his shampoo bottle. So really, the only way they would’ve found the explosives is by some kind of under the clothes search.
Maybe this means that now we need to travel without britches on.
Also, how did the guy get a match on board the plane?
Regardless, I think this whole thing is either:
- A plan by the Detroit Board of Tourism to get people talking about Detroit.
- A ploy by the airlines themselves to make more money by continuing to charge fees for your luggage that you will now be required to check in
- An actual plot by an actual terrorist organization to blow up an American flagged plane
I’d love to see what fallout will come from this whole mess.
You used to not have to take off your shoes until that one guy tried to blow up a plane with explosives in his shoes. I can’t wait to see what you have to remove now to get on board a plane.
What do you think?
