Boeing announced that due to increased demand they will increase the production rate of their 737 to 34 per month from the current 31.5 planes. The increase in production will affect the Renton, Washington facility and will kick in “early 2012.”
Airbus recently announced that they were increasing the production rate of their A320s to 36 per month, also due to increased demand. Airbus said they would step up production in December 2010.
Boeing has more than 80 customers currently waiting for Boeing to work through their 2000+ plane backlog. I wonder if the backlog would be affected by a decision to re-engine the 737. Time will tell.
