Continental Airlines Jet Dumping Fuel During An Emergency

This is footage of a Continental Airlines 777 with 275 passengers and 16 crew onboard dumping fuel before an emergency landing. Apparently, on takeoff, the tower advised the captain that there was “unusual venting from the left gear.” The crew was unable retract the landing gear and fearing a hydraulic leak, they opted to make an emergency landing.

The plane, operating as Flight 9, was too heavy to land so it had to dump most of the fuel on board in order to get to a safe landing weight. The plane was originally en route from Newark to Narita airport in Tokyo.
