JetBlue Airbus Returns to Newark After Losing Engine Cowling

This is from this afternoon. The JetBlue plane, which looks like an A319, lost an engine cowl, aka cover, on takeoff. The pilots decided to return to Newark after being in the air for only 11 minutes. No injuries to anyone on board and it looks like JetBlue is giving everyone a free roundtrip ticket and gave them full refunds for this trip.

I can’t wait until pictures from the plane start to show up.

The video may not be very clear, but if you need some help figuring out what the “cowling” is, it’s essentially like the hood of a car. Here’s the picture of the cowling on a Boeing 767 just to give you a better idea of what the part that fell off looks like.

The part that is lifted off the engine, that allows access to the inner workings of the engine, is the cowling.
