Here’s some video, from Reuters, that shows the damage to the engine. It’s crazy to think that the engine was dropping debris like that over Indonesia.
It appears that Qantas has decided to ground all of their A380s while they figure out what happened to cause the uncontained engine failure. Lufthansa has said that they will not ground their A380s and it appears that no other airline is going to ground their A380s either.

It’s very peculiar. Two flights suffered engine damage within 48 hours of themselves. It might be terrorism. I don’t know.
It does seem weird, but it’s more likely just an engine design flaw, or sloppy maintenance
