V Tail Bonanza

V Tail Bonanza

Some V-Tail Bonanza action at Austin Bergstrom. This plane has the nickname “Doctor Killer.”

Apparently, the name was given to the plan because the wealthy people that bought the plane were over confident in their abilities and the plane tended to get away from them.

In retrospect, it turns out that the accident rate of these planes was no higher than that of other planes. The biggest factor in the accidents, turns out, was pilot error rather than anything that the airplane did or didn’t do.

Everytime I see one of these flying around I can’t help but think about how weird the plane looks. What do you think about the V Tail Bonanza?
